The School of Computing and Data began within Engineering in 1984 and became a separate school in 2006. Faculty treat software as an engineered system: it is specified, built, and maintained.
Computing students use the same machine shops as the engineers and meet the same writing requirement. Upper-level work covers systems, data, and the practical problems of a campus and a working waterfront, including scheduling, measurement, and software that later classes will inherit.
