Public nights resume at the Kessler Observatory
September 25, 2026
The ridge observatory reopened after a summer of work on its dome.
Over the summer the dome of the Kessler Observatory got new bearings and a new canvas weather seal, the first full repair since the 1960s. The first public night of the fall drew about eighty visitors up the ridge path, and the line for the telescope ran out the door.
Ada Kessler started the monthly public nights in 1899. Members of the Astronomy Society now run them, many of them from Kessler House. The next public night is on the last Friday of October, weather permitting.
